How we do it
A clear process, with your interests first
We believe financial planning should be straightforward, transparent, and entirely focused on what’s best for you. Here’s how we work together:
1
Getting to know you
We start with a no-obligation conversation to understand your goals, priorities, and current situation. This is your chance to ask questions and decide if we’re the right fit for you.
Understanding your world
If you choose to go ahead, we’ll gather detailed information about your finances, life plans, and what matters most to you. The aim is to get a complete picture not just of your money, but of the life you want it to support.
2
3
Building your plan
We create a personalised financial plan that’s designed to help you achieve your goals. This plan might include pensions, investments, tax planning, protection, or other strategies but it’s never just about the products.
Presenting and refining
We’ll walk you through your plan in plain English, making sure everything is clear and answering any questions you have. If adjustments are needed, we make them together.
4
5
Implementing your plan
You can choose to have us implement the recommendations, such as setting up investments or insurance, or you can take the plan and do it yourself. Either way, the plan is yours to keep.
Reviewing and adjusting
Life changes and your plan should too. Many clients choose to work with us on an ongoing basis, so we can adapt your plan as your goals, family, or circumstances evolve.

Our fees
Simple & transparent
We charge a fixed initial fee for creating your financial plan. This is not linked to any investment or insurance work, meaning our advice is always impartial.
Unlike many advisers who only charge a percentage of the amount you invest, we’re paid for our planning expertise—not for selling you products. That way, you can be confident that every recommendation is made because it’s right for you, not because it’s how we get paid.
Where your financial plan does result in a recommendation to invest money, or take out an insurance product, there are additional fees for this that will be discussed and agreed to before we proceed with implementing any recommendations.
Initial planning fee: £1,625.00
Implementation fee: varies, usually 0.60% of invested funds, or fixed fees ranging from £300-£450 depending on what is being implemented
Ongoing advice and planning: 0.60% per annum on funds managed by Longmuir
We are more than happy to discuss exactly what you get for your fees.

Elliot Guthrie FPFS, Ch.MCSI
Director & Chartered Financial Planner
I’ve been providing financial advice since 2019, working with individuals, families, and business owners to help them achieve their personal and financial goals.
My approach is always client-focused—taking the time to understand where you are now, where you want to be, and building a plan that helps you get there with clarity and confidence.
I offer advice across all areas of financial planning. Whether you’re looking to secure your future, grow your wealth, or protect what matters most, I’ll work with you to create a plan that fits your life, not just your finances.

Rooted in trust. Guided by experience. Focused on you.
What our clients say
Real guidance. Real results.
We’re proud to support individuals, families, and business owners on their financial journeys. Here’s what some of our clients have shared about working with us:
My husband passed away in 2024 and I quickly learned that I needed advice about my financial future. Elliot was recommended by a family member. He was very professional and visited me several times to listen to my needs and proffer his advice without any pressure. I was given step by step guidance and information about how the plan could work for me. I'm happy to say that I agreed to Elliot's financial plan which was totally personalised to my needs. The benefits of having this plan in place is the security of knowing that my finances are working for me to have a safe future and that Elliot's service is ongoing and only a phone call or text message away. I can now have a future where I don't need to worry and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him.
Mr G Hardy, Perthshire
I was recommended Elliot because I had a small inheritance also, being over 55 and having no clue about the value of my various pensions, I really needed some advice to put a retirement plan in place.
After looking at the information on my pensions and talking over with me what I wanted my retirement to look like Elliot came up with a proposal that made sense to me. He very patiently explained about different kinds of investment and what that would potentially like in the coming years. He also answered all my questions, no matter how trivial or stupid sounding because they are not, as he says, they're important to me. I was very happy to follow his suggestions.
I know understand my pensions more than I ever before and am reassured by Elliot being there for any queries I may have in the future.
Ms M Redpath, Fife
We are so grateful to Elliot at Longmuir Financial Planning for the advice he has offered us. We needed support to consolidate previous pensions and were keen to plan for our future in the best way possible. After meeting with us and discussing our aspirations in more detail, Elliot offered a comprehensive plan where he explained all the options clearly on how best to do this. We feel confident in his advice and secure that the investment decisions made will meet our needs and goals for the future. We would highly recommend Longmuir Financial Planning.
